Welcome

What is Live D&D?

Live D&D is a pilot concept to see if people would be interested in tuning in to watch a group of friends play face-to-face D&D using a live feed. This feed currently features two views of the game. One is the view of the map on the digital game table and the other is a webcam view of the players around the table. During the broadcast we monitor the chat room and include the viewers in on the discussions around the table.

Why tune in?

There aren't many shows on the TV where you can have as much connection to the cast and characters as you do here. Sometimes you just want to see how others play D&D. And sometimes it's just a good way to kill a boring friday night when you have nothing else to do!

When are the shows?

Right now, the shows are broadcast whenever we have a game. However, it really depends on our schedules. Sometimes work and other activities prevent a regular game. The shows can run up to 8 hours long. Whenever we plan a game, I post about it on my Twitter page. Feel free to follow me so you can get a heads up.

Sounds great! How do I tune in?

You can tune in by going to our Live D&D page on ustream.tv.

What software/hardware do you use to broadcast the show?

We use a number of tools, but the major ones are:

  • Maptool: This is used to manage the maps and allow the DM to control creatures.
  • UStream.tv: This site lets you stream videos from your webcam.
  • WebCamMax: This is used to merge the game table display and webcam and allows for picture-in-picture streams.
  • Custom Game Table: More info below…

Woah? Where did you get that game table?

The game table is a custom built table that was created by Shane & Leah DeSeranno. Here is a demo of this game table:
